Delayed Openings and School Closings

In the event of inclement weather, it is possible that a delayed opening will be announced. If a delayed opening is announced on the radio, school will start two hours after the regular starting time.

Delayed openings and no school announcements will be communicated to families on our website and through our "NIXLE" notification system

SAU-39 Policy on School Cancellation and Delays

Determination of cancellation of school or delayed opening is a joint decision made by the Superintendents of SAU-39 and SAU-40 (Milford), based upon information received through the Milford Communications Center from local police departments and road agents. Past experience indicates at times school has been cancelled for the day at 6:00 am and by 8:00 am conditions have improved sufficiently to hold school. The following will clarify the procedure used for canceling school or to announce a delayed opening. If conditions are bad at 6:00 am, a "delayed opening" or "no school" will be announced on the TV/radio stations listed above

PROCEDURE:

On a delayed opening, schools will open two (2) hours after the regular starting time and bus pick-ups will also be delayed two (2) hours. You may plan on having your children picked up at the usual stop two (2) hours later than normal. On delayed opening days, schools will be dismissed at the usual time.

NOTE: When the opening of school is delayed in Amherst and Mont Vernon, the morning session of preschool and/or kindergarten will be cancelled; however, the afternoon pre-school/kindergarten program will be in session.

If conditions remain bad by 8:00 AM,the "no school" announcement will be made over local radio stations by 9:00 AM for Amherst and Mont Vernon residents.

If conditions warrant, early dismissal from school due to inclement weather or emergency will be determined no later than 11:00 AM. Parents will be alerted by the Clark-Wilkins email system.

Please make sure your email is always up-to-date in your child's records.
